Historian,coffee lover and dog lover
On Localie since September 2020
My story is not a fairy tale. It takes me 6 (!) years to make my dream almost come true and today I'm ready to share it with you! Name is Daria, I'm living on the island of Crete, Greece. Once, in 2014 I came here to work for summer (it looks to me like an eternity right now). After that, I just could not leave that place! I finished my University in Russia (I'm a specialist of organization of social and cultural events), I learned Greek and move here. So now, I study a History and Archaeology in a local university (which is one of the best in Europe and in Greece, by the way) and fall in love with Crete day after day. I live in the amazing Venetian city of Rethymno. Why it's amazing? Because it has a long beach line right in the middle of the city, it has an old town with buildings of 15-16th. century and amazing nature around a town (if you like walking, hiking or bicycle trips).
I worked almost 6 years in a big touristic company as a historical guide and translator. Although, I didn't feel free enough over there - you should go strictly by the program and you cannot sometimes to show and say everything you want. So, since then I had in mind to tray and create an individual trips so you can not just go in the most touristic places over here, but really fall in love with Crete and Greece generally and to see the island from totally different "non-touristic" side.
I can not live without coffee and beer - that means I know the best places to go for the morning breakfast and the best bars in Rethymno. I like to be in motion, going somewhere and be a part of something, that make every moment of your day a little better. This is one of the reason, maybe, I became a guide.
We will make a wall near Venetian palazzo with ottoman kiosks in Greek city, will drink the best coffee with galaktobureko ( you will die for it, if you are a sweet lover), will go to the traditional village to see, how people making ceramics, a village with 25 fountains and another village (yea, it is a lot of villages here) to eat the best arni (for meat lover) and kolokifokeftedes (for my dear vegetarian friends). We can also go for a beach with a rose sand or go to swim in a natural lake and have a ride on catamaran to see a turtles. (Psss... Don't tell anyone, but maybe we can also go to one of secret beaches on the south, agricultural side of the island...) I have so many in my mind... Just let me made a tour for you and you will see - Crete is an island full of opportunities. Its pure magic (allowed outside of Hogwarts).
