Day 1 - A Kalaidascope of Colour! Vibrant Balat
Morning - Meet at Beyoğlu's Tunel at 9:00am
Let's meet here in the morning around 9:00 am. We can confirm the time together. The entrance is easy to find. It's conveniently located at the top of the famous "Tünel" and is marked "F2" on the metro map. The entrance is right at the end of the famous Istiklal Boulevard. This tram is a beauty to behold in its own right! Let's start the day off on Istanbul's oldest underground.
Explore the rainbow!
Here we'll visit Balat ! The colorful houses in Istanbul are located in the Balat neighborhood, which is a historic district on the European side of the city, near the Golden Horn. The houses in this neighborhood are known for their vibrant colors and are a popular attraction for tourists. The reason why the houses in Balat are so colorful is not entirely clear. Some people believe that the tradition of painting the houses in bright colors started as a way to differentiate between the different households and make them easier to identify. Others speculate that the practice was a way to lift people's spirits during difficult times, such as during times of war or political upheaval. Regardless of the origin of the tradition, the colorful houses in Balat have become a symbol of the neighborhood's unique character and cultural heritage. In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and promote the historic architecture and cultural traditions of the area, including the colorful houses.
